Summary
To access the Dashboard you will need to be in our Professional subscription.
For data to appear in your dashboard you need to have created and published plans.
For your ease of use, we recommend standardising your plan names to include the client name, plan type, and farm name - see "How to name maps and plans" guidance here.
Your Dashboards are on a refresh every 2 hours through the working day (8am until 8pm), including weekends.
On 1st of each month, we run a full database refresh to ensure any “third-party” dataset that are included in the dashboard (such as Habitat Networks for BNG Strategic Significance) are also refreshed. On these days the delay may be more ~6 hours, we apologise for this inconvenience.
Only Admins of the organisation will be added to the Dashboard (if they are on a Professional Plan). Any additional staff that join the Professional Tier will only be able to access the dashboard once the Admin approves them via an email confirmation. What's new?
Homepage Organisation Summary chart - we have now added on the homepage a summary table showing the total area of each Plan Type for each map name. This enables you to quickly cross-reference and quantify your entire areas across your Map of Maps, and look for discrepancies.
Peatland Carbon and Condition (beta test) - in line with our new template on Land App, we have released a Peatland page with various metrics on Peatland. This is still in the testing phase, but any feedback would be welcome.
Additional "Unique Map Name" filter across all pages of the dashboard, this allows a quick filter for specific client(s).
Biodiversity Net Gain 4.0 Calculator now LIVE!
Biodiversity Net Gain Export Tab - you can now download a CSV (Excel) of the BNG metrics from the dashboard to be copied and pasted into the Natural England Tool.
Overview
Dashboards are now available on the Land App platform, allowing premium users to leverage data and insights from across their Land App ecosystem — all at the click of a button.
This guidance is split into two parts. Part one focuses on a review of the current core metrics available on your Dashboard - namely using BPS and CSS data. With these metrics, you'll be able to analyse, understand and forecast existing schemes offering funding. Part two within this guidance, however, focuses on our future thinking metrics available on your
Dashboards, such as the Biodiversity Net Gain (4.0.) units calculator. These metrics will enable you to see funding that may be accessed outside current land management schemes.
Ultimately, this guidance outlines best practices for your Land App Dashboard. By following the steps outlined below, users will be better equipped to generate clean and tidy data, reducing the likelihood of inaccuracies.
Part One: Core Metrics
Basic Payment Summary and Calculator
This calculator runs off the Basic Payment Scheme by Rural Payments Agency.
Requirements:
All BPS projects that are “published” on Land App by your organisation will be represented on your Dashboard.
Please note, all published projects will transfer to your dashboard, regardless of overlap — potentially leading to an overestimation of land coverage.
Assumptions:
The reduction calculator works on the total area on display, therefore please filter to single farms to get an accurate value.
The BPS Calculator does not yet take into account varied payment rates due to SDA’s (Severely Disadvantaged Areas) - all areas are assumed to be outside SDA's.
Definitions:
Basic Payment Schemes are rural grants and payments that provide help to the farming industry. They are planned to be phased out by 2024.

Stewardship Summary and Calculator
This calculator runs off the Countryside Stewardship Scheme 2023 by Department for Environment and Rural Affairs.
Requirements:
All CSS projects that are “published” on Land App by your organisation will be visible on your Dashboard.
Please note, all published projects will transfer to your dashboard, regardless of overlap — causing an overestimation of land coverage.
Assumptions:
Filters will impact the total area calculated on display. Revenue options are assumed to receive an annual payment for five years.
Capital payments are assumed as a one-off and are only displayed in first-year projections.
Definitions:
Countryside Stewardship is a grants and payment mechanism that provides help to the farming industry with the purpose of producing environmental goods. They are planned to be rolled out passed 2027, under ELMS, as "Countryside Stewardship Plus (+)".

Part Two: Future Thinking Metrics
Setting your map up for Biodiversity Net Gain Calculations
Requirements
To access Land App's future thinking metrics, you'll need the following three plans up and running which need to be "published":
Ownership Boundary: A red line boundary using the Ownership Boundary template - representing the area of interest.
Baseline Habitat Assessment: A plan providing 100% coverage of the ownership boundary in the UKHabitat Classification format. This baseline should only represent features bigger than 5m2.
Your Baseline Habitat Assessment should include:
A Primary Habitat - at the required level of detail.
Secondary codes (where appropriate).
Condition scores (if available).
Land Management Plan: A future vision for the holding, only showing where features are either being created (new habitat) or enhanced (condition score improvements).
Features that remain constant do not need to be added to this layer.
Users can have multiple Land Management Plans, just ensure that they are labelled accordingly (e.g. “LMP 1_Farm Name” and “LMP2_Farm Name”).
Creating a Baseline Habitat Assessment
On Land App, there are multiple ways to create your Baseline Habitat Assessments. Outlined below are the three options available to users:
UKHabitat Best Guess Habitat Map
A premium dataset provided by Land App and UKHab Ltd. Using your pre-
defined ownership boundary, we produce a Habitat map at the click of a button,
drastically reducing user workload. Click here for our 'UKHabitat Best Guess Habitat Map'.
Datasets used include Ordnance Survey MasterMap, Natural England’s Priority Habitat Inventory, Forestry Commission Woodland Inventory, Rural Payments Crop Map of England.
Optional additional inputs: Basic Payment Scheme Plan or Countryside Stewardship Plan will improve the accuracy of the output.

Basic Payment to Habitat Map
Users can benefit from a direct translation from a Basic Payment Scheme plan
to a UKHabitat Map. This is available for free to all users and can be accessed by
“duplicating” any existing Basic Payment Scheme template into a Baseline
Habitat Assessment. Any codes not picked up by the translation will have to be
assigned manually. This method does not provide as much accuracy as it
would using the UKHabitat Best Guess Habitat Map. Click here for our 'How To Guidance'
Uploading existing UKHabitat Data
If you or your client already has a UKHabitat Map in GIS format (Shapefile,
GeoJSON or KML), this can be directly imported to Land App using the Import
function. Please ensure that the attribute that has a UKHab Primary Code is
called “laFeatureType”.
Please ensure you have read this guidance before uploading existing UKHab data to ensure Land App formats the data correctly.
If you have any existing data that could be converted into a UKHab Baseline
(including past surveys, Countryside Stewardship or cropping plans), please
contact Sales (sales@thelandapp.com) who can provide you with a quote for preparing and formatting your data.
Creating a Land Management Plan
A Land Management Plan is a future view of the land; what any piece of land has the potential to become. This is either a change in land use (e.g. a planting of a new
woodland) or an enhancement (an improvement of condition). When creating this layer, it does not need to be 100% coverage of the area.
Your Land Management Plan should always be created after your Baseline Habitat Assessment.
Choose a specific feature on your Baseline Habitat Assessment that is going to change.
Right-click on that feature and select the “Copy to Project” option, then select the “Create new project” option and choose the Land Management Plan template. Finally, give your Land management Plan a unique name (e.g. LMP1_Farm Name). Note: this step only needs to be done once, all subsequent polygons can be copied to the previously created project.
Now that you have a Land Management Plan template, assign any polygons transferred from the Baseline to the habitat type you want it to become.
You will now have two projects (Baseline and Management Plan) that can be transposed on top of each other to show present and future land use.
Your Future Vision
Combining your Baseline and Land Management Plan to create a future vision
Once you have completed both of these layers, we will send your data to your bespoke Dashboard. Land App will combine the Baseline Habitat Assessment with the Land
Management Plan(s), generating a range of insights, analysis and potential uplifts. Any areas not copied onto the Land Management Plan will be assumed to remain
constant in their value on the Baseline Habitat Assessment.
Biodiversity Units Calculator
This calculator runs off the Biodiversity Metric 4.0. by Natural England. The current version only takes into account habitat units, and therefore Hedgerows and Rivers are not included.

Requirements:
For Accurate units, your map needs to contain a single published Baseline Habitat Assessment, and a Land Management Plan.
Areas, where multiple published polygons overlap within the same map, will cause calculation errors.
If you wish to calculate a "scenario" uplift (e.g. two separate Land Management Plans), you will need to create a separate map.
Units will only be calculated on habitats classified to the required level on the UKHabitat Framework. A full list of these can be found here.
Assumptions:
All habitats on the baseline are in “moderate” condition unless attributed otherwise.
All habitats have the potential to reach “good” status unless stated otherwise by the Biodiversity Metric 4.0.
Strategic Significance multiplier of x1.15 is added to areas within the Natural England Habitats (Networks Combined).
Definitions:
Creation - UKHab Primary habitat changes from one code to another.
Enhancement - UKHab Primary habitat remains the same, but the condition score is improving.
No change - both the UKHab code and condition remain the same.
